- Every time you turn around, there's something else stupid that the Federal Government's doing with our tax dollars. This morning, it's the National Institutes of Health spending $330 million to lease a building that vibrates too much for them to do serious experiments in -- the kind they do EVERY DAY of the week. Why'd they lease it? Well, NIH Director Elias Zerhouni used to work at Johns Hopkins University, who they're leasing it from, and Maryland Sen. Barbara Mikulski pushed the lease through Congress, at one point stating in a hearing that she and her fellow Marylanders had "teamed up with Hopkins to outwit the General Services Administration." Who's that? The agency designed to avoid wasteful spending.
