Tell Us What Sucks

About TellUsWhatSucks

    Our Mission:
  • To give people a place to vent, and to know what others are venting about.
  • To let you decide what really sucks, and why, and to tell the world a little bit about it.
  • To learn about what sucks, why it sucks, and what needs to be done to fix it.

Our principles:

This website is all about your opinions, and giving you a place to express them.  We designed TellUsWhatSucks solely for that purpose: for you to tell us what sucks.  We want to hear about the people, places and things that you think suck, and we also want to know why.

And we want to know if others agree.  Every time you read a post, you have the chance to agree, and to tell us all your special reason why that person, place or thing sucks.  If you read a posting about how the brain-dead ex-husband of a talentless singing sensation sucks, you might agree that he sucks, but disagree why.  Tell us.  We all want to know.

The more people who think a particular topic sucks, the higher it ranks in its category.  We’re keeping a running total of the Top Ten People, Places and Things that Suck, along with the Most Recent additions, on our Highlights page.  Click on a user’s name, and you’ll get to their home page, listing every single item they think sucks.  And click on any tag, and the system will generate the Top 25 listed with that tag.

If those are all things we care about, there are some things we don’t care about.  We don’t care about what you like.  We don’t care about whether you think one of our lists is unfair because everyone else in the world thinks your favorite actor sucks. (Hint: Start a new category: "People Who Hate Rock Hudson Suck.")  We don’t care about what our users decide - we just care about giving them the opportunity to decide.  That’s our goal.

We do reserve certain rights for ourselves.  You can talk about any topic, but you cannot conduct hate speech.  In addition to reserving the right to define what we think is hate speech, we reserve the right to delete any and all references that we determine represent hate speech.  That doesn’t mean you can’t talk about religion, say; but while telling us that being forced to go to 7:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays sucks is okay, maligning any religious, ethnic or social group is not acceptable.  We will attempt to filter out any such comments, and when we fail will be responsive to community members who point out problem speech.

Who Are We?

We’re a community of people who have things to say and want to be heard.  If you’re just here to rant about your mother-in-law, or an incredibly bad movie you saw, that’s great.  We welcome you, and hope you’ll come back again and again.  But we’re hoping for more.

While we may all be complaining here, what we hope to build is a community of people who want to be heard.  It’s a community based on people’s complaints, not on complainers; made up of people with things to whine about, not whiners.  Why?  Because no one’s listening any more.

Whether it’s politicians, the airlines, retailers with their lousy service, or the companies we work for, no one is listening any more.  In a globalized world run on digital technologies, each of us is more and more disconnected from anyone who can make a difference: your Member of Congress, management of the companies you buy from, your health insurance provider, etc., etc., etc.  The people we used to complain to have been replaced either by telephone jockeys in place like South Dakota, or Bangladesh, or India, or by electronic voices in voicemail hell.  Don’t get us wrong: we love technology; but one of its downsides is the fact that it makes it harder and harder for us to be heard.

TellUsWhatSucks is here to give us all our voices back.  Nobody listens to the individual complainer.  But if enough of us talk, if enough of us share our complaints, maybe we’ll build up enough steam to be heard.  So come on - tell us.  Tell Us What Sucks.
